My headcanon for Cordelia:
1. What does their bedroom look like?
Cordelia grew up with money and access to the best decorators in Southern California. So even if she doesn’t have the means for the best, most expensive things in LA, she DOES have the taste to put together a uniquely her
bedroom that includes some solid pieces from garage sales in the richier parts of Silverlake, and some irreverent pieces that show the woman she’s becoming while on her own in LA.
2. Do they have any daily rituals?
She has a beauty regime she adheres to every morning because of her mother drummed it into her that smooth, unblemished skin doesn’t just happen
. So the first thing she does when she wakes up is wash and soap her face, and then brushes her teeth. After Doyle’s death she also walked into the office and got out ‘his’ mug first thing, looked at it, and then put it back. Its loss is the thing she mourned the most when their office blew up.
3. Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
Cordelia was blessed with superior genetics but once again, her mother drummed it into her that her figure was something that she needed to work at maintaining. It was easy in high school - her metabolism did a lot of the heavy lifting and both cheerleading and running from monsters picked up the slack. But after school, she had less choices about what and when she ate so the things she never would have touched before LA, she was now eating, which went straight to the wrong places. She ran a lot those first few months in LA, after dawn of course, and when Angel hired her, the first thing she did after she paid her rent was go and get a gym membership. The Tae Bow classes alone made the sacrifice worth it. She doesn’t exercise every day, her hours are too unpredictable for any kind of schedule – and it wasn’t like it was imperative she exercise, she wasn’t a slayer or anything – but she goes a couple times a week. More if she can swing it.
4. What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
She’d order out. She’d cook something simple, like brownies, just for the experience, but she doesn’t make cooking a habit. She’s Vision Girl and
she’s an office manager. She’s not
Betty Crocker. Besides, Angel’s the cook in the family.
5. Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)
She wasn’t into grunge even when it was in
, so she keeps up her hygiene and grooming. No one would ever accuse her of bad breath, not even after an all nighter of researching the lurking evil. The space around her does take a bit of a beating though, clean-wise, but she thinks she’s doing okay in that department considering she grew up with domestic help. Dennis takes up the slack, and she’s happy to let him. Her desk at work is cluttered but not dirty. She’s Cordelia Chase. She may no longer have money, but she hasn’t lost her class.
6. Eating habits and sample daily menu
She traveled with her parents growing up so she’s open to different cuisines. But she’s a fairly healthy eater even if she isn’t too picky. It’s LA, she can get healthy food just about anywhere, and some of the places downtown are ethnic enough to keep her interest, and cheap enough so that she’s not paying an arm and a leg for tastiness. She usually has eggs and toast in the morning/evening, made by Angel, a Madeline when she wants to treat herself, salad from a deli down the street for lunch, and, if the world isn’t ending, wraps for dinner, with lots of avocado with her turkey and romaine.
When the world is
in danger of ending, she grabs what’s available, even if it’s a couple of fingers of peanut butter and some crackers.
7. Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time
A skinny latte or frap from the coffee stand in the park, an hour or so flipping through a brand new, half an inch thick Vogue from Italy, or reading something light and frivolous. She doesn’t see them as a waste of time, but little moments where she can recharge her batteries and remind herself the world isn’t just
about bad and not-so-bad choices, icky slime, and wondering if Angel was going to lose his soul while she was out getting research material and pigs’ blood for his lunch.
8. Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging
She has a secret. When Angel and the others are out doing the manly, heroic thing, she goes up into his room and goes through his closets and trunks. For a brooding creature of the night that yearns for redemption and forgiveness, Angel has a lot of very nice fabrics and cuts hanging in his closet. It’s like taking a journey through time, some of his clothes, and she wonders about the random shirt or boots, where he got it, whether he was souled or not, if they were a gift. She does it to know Angel better, but she also does it because his records and pillows and clocks and clothes remind her of a time when she
had things like his. She doesn’t feel she’s really invading his privacy because she knows he keeps the truly private things locked up or hidden away, and there’s no danger that she’s going to stumble across those. And if she does? Then he’s not a very good 250 year old vampire and should try harder.
She wears it. It’s part of her armor and it makes her more beautiful. Being beautiful makes people either underestimate her or gives her things, and that gives her an advantage. Growing up, she had expensive brand names that she picked up from around the world during her parents’ trips, and her mother taught her the best way to apply, which colors were her best. In LA, she realized it wasn’t necessarily the most expensive make up that made her beautiful, but her talent in applying it.
10. Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?
She’s the most well adjusted person she knows.
11. Intellectual pursuits?
She can read the classics, understand existentialism and she thinks that Freud was overrated and sex obsessed, but she lives in the present and her life is a dangerous one. She wants to read things that aren’t stupid but aren’t full of pointless navel gazing either, so she’d say she doesn’t have intellectual pursuits. She read what she likes and occasionally she reads them in French. The one time Angel tried to engage her in an intellectual conversation she cut it short by flipping open Cosmopolitan and making him take the How to Tell When She’s Over You quiz on page 120.
But she kicks ass at Trivial Pursuit.
12. Favorite book genre?
Something with a plot but not so convoluted she has to think too hard about whodunit. So romantic suspense is just up her alley.
13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?
Although she had that one weird dream about Faith her senior year, she’s straight. And seeing as how the best hair dresser she ever had was gay, she’s all for same sex lovin’ – as long as she doesn’t have to imagine Willow making out with a girl. She barely could stand seeing the girl make out with Oz. The less said about Xander, the better. So, yeah. Gay equates great hair, so she’s a fan.
14. Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
She has a scar from a love affair gone bad, but she considers it a good thing. It reminds her to always trust her instincts. Her head is in ever growing danger of exploding, and she had a yearlong illness when she was eight that makes her loathe weakness. Other than those things, she has been lucky to be as healthy as she is, considering her chosen line of work.
15. Biggest and smallest short term goal?
Her long term goal is two pronged. To stay with Angel until he Shanshues, and to make their agency the best, most successful of its kind.
Her short term goal is to get through the day without her head exploding.
There's more but I'm way too beat to..er, beat it out tonight. So it'll be continued tomorrow.
Night all. :)
